my philosophy on maternity photos

I have the utmost respect for the female body and the miracles it is capable of. I am honoured in my medical work to assist women through various aspects of their reproductive years, and in my time on the labour ward (some years ago now!) I learnt to revere the pregnant state and the miracle of labour. In my photography I want to show you how beautiful you are. How strong and capable and powerful you are. How you have absolutely got this, however you might be feeling about it.

I have carried two babies and it never occurred to me to hire someone to capture either pregnancy. The thought literally didn’t cross my mind. Probably in part because, like most pregnant women, I felt cumbersome and awkward. Also because I hadn’t yet discovered my passion for photography or learnt to appreciate the value of professional photos. (I thought an iPhone selfie would suffice with number one - oh how regrettable). But let me tell you, how your pregnant body feels to you is not at all reflected in what I see and what I capture. I absolutely adore maternity sessions because I truly believe that photos of a pregnant belly are the most beautiful photos of all. Pregnancy is the ultimate expression of femininity.

Client closet

Styling is one of the most important elements of my sessions and helps achieve the dreamy cohesive look you see in my images. With all of my sessions I offer full access to my extensive client closet. I have lots of bump-friendly options and prior to your session I will offer you a face-to-face consultation to plan your outfits. I’ll give you lots of tips for dressing the rest of the family too so that nothing distracts from your togetherness in your images.

During the session

During your session you can relax and just enjoy your time with your family. I strive for connection and candid images so I will help guide you into relaxed “poses” that allow you to connect and interact with your family in ways that feel comfortable and natural. During our time together, you don’t have to worry about a single thing except being together and connecting.

After the session

Once your gallery is delivered you have access to some of my beautiful heirloom print products including my locally-made handcrafted frames. I have personally selected the highest quality and most eco-friendly, sustainable products that I could source for your completed artworks.
